Mehdi Hassan was born in the year of 1927 in a small village called Luna in Rajasthan, India. Hailing from a family of musicians, he is one of the most influential names when it comes to ghazal singing.
Mehdi Hassan was 20 at the time of India-Pakistan partition. He, along with his family, migrated to the newly-formed Muslim country. Here he worked in Lollywood and came to be known as the King of Ghazal
Mehdi won multiple awards including Nishan-e-Imtiaz which is the highest civilian award of Pakistan. He passed away on June 13, 2012, in Karachi. Today should have been his 91st birthday. Google paid a homage to him by replacing its search cover by a Mehdi Hassan doodle.
